Imphal, September 15 2021:
Large number of women officials of Cooperative Societies marched up to the gate of chief minister's bungalow on Wednesday demanding implementation of Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP).
They were stopped by security guards and Imphal West police led by additional SP Bidya in front of the CM's gate.
After a short time, SP Imphal West Ibomcha and Imphal PS OC N Ingocha also arrived and allowed four representatives to meet the CM.
As theCM was out attending a function, they met the CM's PRO, who assured of looking into their demand and doing the needful.
Interacting with the media, Khabam Maning Leikai Cooperative Society Limited secretary Tamu said that the ICD project, which is approved by National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) will provide benefits to cooperative societies engaged in handloom and handicraft works.
NCDC had also sent a reminder to the state government for extending financial assistance to the societies under the project.
However, the state government is ignoring the project for long which is why the cooperative societies took up the step, she said.
The fund for the project will come from the Centre and the state government is supposed to play the part of guarantor only for providing financial assistance to the cooperative societies, which will not only improve the socio-economic condition of several families but also give a boost to the promotion of handloom and handicraft.
Demanding the government to take up necessary steps in this regard, she said that the societies might surrender their documents if the government keeps on ignoring their demands.
