YWO demands eviction of encroachers from Thongjaorok

Youth Welfare Organisation publicity secretary has urged the department concerned to look into the ongoing encroachment along the Bishnupur Thongjaorok river bank including construction of pigsties and small ponds.
In a statement, the secretary informed that the once big river has gradually shrunken,/ leading some people toencroach upon the dried up river banks and areas by constructing pigsties, small private ponds, etc.
This has impacted the ecosystem of the river not to mention of the pollution and health hazards, prompting people and local club of Bishnupur Ward No 5 to take the initiative for its restoration.
However, the illegal encroachers are claiming the land they have occupied to be their private property.
Urging the state government to look into the matter and remove the illegal encroachments immediately, particularly the pigsties; the secretary informed that around point 33 area of land has been encroached upon.
Meanwhile, one of the residents conveyed that they have been residing at the locality for over 60 years.
The original course of the river has changed drastically in the last few years and as such to save the rivers, there is need to stop illegal encroachment that has been going on for many years.
She then suggested the de -partment concerned not to issue land deeds arbitrarily, while demanding immediate removal of the encroachers.
