Couple held for grenade attack, IED recovered

Imphal, September 15 2021:
A husband-wife duo has been arrested in connection with a grenade attack at the office of manager of KBS Agro Industries located at KBS Brick Field Makoi Langjing Hill range under Patsoi PS on Wednesday afternoon.
Police have also recovered an TED from the possession of the couple.
The arrested couple has been identified as Moirangthem Mohen alias Manao Pari (42) s/o (L) Nimai of Sagolband Tera Sayang Leirak and his second wife Maisnam ningol Moirangthem ongbi Sarda.
Both of them had been renting a room near KBS Brick Field Makoi Langjing Hill range.
Mohen was previously a cadre of ULFA but joined PREPAK as a self-styled captain.
Parading the couple during a press briefing held at his Conference hall on Wednesday, SP Dr S Ibomcha informed that a report was received around 2pm that some unidentified miscreants had placed a hand grenade at the office of manager of KBS Agro Industries.
Based on the report, a combined team of Imphal West District Police Addl SP, DSP, SDPO Imphal, Commando OC and Patsoi PS OC rushed to the scene and conducted a search operation.
The team carried out a one-by-one verification of all workers in the area during which they arrested Mohen.
On questioning, Mohen revealed that he planted the hand grenade as per the instruction of one Aheibam Angom of PREPAK in connection with an extortion demand.
On top of this, he was provided with an IED with the aim of attacking security forces on the occasion of Raising Day celebration of PREPAK.
The IED was planted in an area of Langjing area so as to launch attack on CRPF but failed to explode.
The explosive was dug up for repairing.
Based on the above information, police raided the rented room of Mohen and arrested his wife Sarda while also recovering the IED, the SP conveyed.
Dr Ibomcha further informed that the team also recovered 1 Chinese hand grenade, 1 TNT explosive with detonator, 16V 5.0AH Battery, 1 Sony Digital camera, 1 remote with battery, 2 mobile phones and a surrendered paper provided by the Assam government.
The arrested husband-wife duo will be produced before the Court on Thursday, wherein the police will make a prayer for police custody remand, he added.
