While decrying alleged attack by BJP workers and PAC members, Anal Sinnu Ruwl (ASR) has urged higher authority concerned to look into the matter seriously and take action accordingly so as to ensure peaceful, free and fair conduct of election.
In a release, ASR recalled that a group of BJP supporters who came in six Gypsy vehicles under the command of SR Max and HT Rael, who claimed themselves to be members of Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of a Naga insurgent group, intimidated NPF supporters who attended the Naga People's Front campaign at Chakpikarong in Chandel District while they were returning to their respective villages on February 26.The provocation was immediately reported to Chakpikarong police station and their timely intervention avoided possible untoward incidents.
On the next day, eight groups of Anal women visit ed chief functionary of NSCN Kurmi region to discuss various issues pertaining to the election and requested him to control his 'boys' from indulging in various activities such as threatening the village chiefs and elders to support the BJP candidate SS Olish Lamkang.
After the fruitful interaction, when the group was about to pray for a peaceful, free and fair election, a larger group of BJP workers led by PS Yumas and WL Nohrin along with other PAC members came in three Gypsy vehicles armed with knives and firearms, manhandled the women group and nearly choked a woman, the release narrated, while adding that the BJP workers sent out alarm by hitting the electric poles and calling out other supporters from Kanankhu village.
Later, after the intervention of Chandel police, the mob was brought under control.
Again, on Monday night, a group of unknown hooded miscreants armed with assault rifles came in two numberless Gypsy vehicles at the residence of KT Ruwngiel, the chief of Thungcheng village who is also the chairman of Western Valley Area Chief Association.
They threatened the chief's daughter and enquired his whereabouts.
The same miscreants went to Khambathel, a nearby village and intimidated the villagers by firing two-three rounds in the air.
A 50-year-old ex-serviceman named RD Angthung was also physically abused without any provocation, maintained the ASR release.
After the perpetration of hooliganism at Khambathel, NSCN cadres namely HT Ravi and PS Beauty along with BJP workers went to Unopat village and physically abused a youth named SR Thumnem and the same act of coercion was again continued at Julbangching village, the release denounced.
While contending that the PAC members are unleashing fear-psychosis among the voters especially the village chiefs, ASR said that the village chiefs are being called to their hideouts regularly with threat of dire consequences if not responded immediately.
The release strongly condemned the barbaric and wanton display of power by gun wielding miscreants.
