Churachandpur, March 01 2022:
Large number of supporters of INC, NPP, Shiv Sena and Independent candidates for the seat of Henglep AC protested in front of DEO/DC Churachandpur office from 3pm on Tuesday demanding repoll in 24 polling stations of Henglep AC.
A protester named Lynda C told media persons that Monday's poll in Henglep AC was unfair and SoO groups orchestrated booth capturing and proxy voting while polling officials were unable to take up any corrective measures.
She also lambasted security personnel for not taking any step to prevent militant groups from carrying out their nefarious designs of booth capturing and proxy voting.
She further denounced SoO groups, of curtailing voting rights of the people and demanded repoll.
As the protesters tried to enter the DC office campus asking security forces to at least allow two representatives each of the candidates to enter the campus and meet DEO, security forces denied and dispersed the protesters by firing tear gas shells and baton-charging after a heated argument.
In the ensuing melee, around six protesters were injured and taken to district hospital for treatment.
After the incident, DC Churachandpur imposed restriction under relevant law prohibiting gathering of more than five people and carrying of dangerous weapons or firearms, sword, sticks in Churachandpur town.
