Imphal, March 01 2022:
Students of Manipur University staged a protest today at the traffic island in MU campus demanding the authorities concerned to make arrangements for Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) election to be conducted before March 5 .
Speaking on behalf of all protesters, Sanasam Steven stated that the annual MUSU election was supposed to be conducted on February 6 .
However, the authorities responsible for conducting this election have not made any announcements in this regard despite several weeks passing beyond the scheduled date of the election, he complained.
Sansam Steven added that written as well as vocal appeals had been made repeatedly to the Dean and VC of Manipur University for the MUSU election to be conducted as per schedule.
However, this inaction on their part is tantamount to a violation of the rights of MU students, he added.

He urged the MU authority to not take advantage of the pandemic situation in subduing the students' rights and added that if a statewide election can be conducted while adhering to Covid protocol, so can the student body election.
Sanasam Steven also shared that the lack of a proper students' body has caused many inconveniences to the students of MU.
Citing some of these inconveniences, he stated that there is always a lot of confusion in the conducting of classes as well as examinations where students are left in a state of befuddlement with the lack of clear cut instructions.
Further, he cautioned that a written complaint will be submitted to the Centre if MU authorities do not make arrangements to conduct MUSU election at the earliest.
During the protest, the participating students were seen holding placards which displayed messages such as "Save MUSU", "Fix a date for MUSU election" and "Save MU" among others.
