Grocery shop set on fire, sit-in staged

In what is suspected to be a case of post-poll violence, a grocery wholesale shop located at Singjameii Chingamakha Oinam Leikai, Pisumthong was found set on fire by unidentified miscreants early Tuesday morning.
The ill-fated shop belonged to one Haobam Indeshwor of Singjamei Chingamakha Irom Leirak.
Indeshwor is said to be an active worker of Singjamei BJP candidate.
He is also the president of Singjamei BJP Election Committee Ward no 16.Speaking to newspersons in this regard, Indeshwor's wife Premlata expressed strong suspicion that the arson was poll-related, while informing that around Rs 5 lakh worth of goods have been lost in the fire.
She then said that a complaint has been lodged to the police station concerned, while urging all concerned not to repeat such acts in future against any other family.
On the other hand, Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup and Singjamei Chingamakha Meira Paibi jointly staged a sit-in protest near Singjamei Chingamakha Oinam Leikai, Pisumthong on Tuesday, condemning the incident.
Speaking on the sidelines, Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup advisior Thingnam ongbi Ibethoi strongly condemned the incident and demanded the person(s) responsible to clarify themselves for committing the arson.
Singjamei BJP Election Committee Ward no 16 has also condemned the arson.
In a press meet held at the Committee's office in Singjamei Chingamakha Meisnam Leikai, Committee president Indeshwor said that everyone has the right to vote for the candidate of their choice.
As such, it is unfortunate to have his shop burnt down in such a suspicions manner, he said and urged all concerned not to repeat such acts in future.
