Kakching, October 31 2022:
Stating that in government record Thorcham village under Chakpikarong sub-division in Chandel district received power connection in 2015, village chief RL Moel revealed that after only one month of connectivity the service stopped.
While appealing to the government to ensure resumption of power supply before Christmas, RL Moel told media persons that Chandel is the only district of the state selected as 'Aspiration District' by the central government and it is frequently visited by Union ministers to review the progress of developmental activities.
But Thorcham village which was provided power connectivity by the Power Department in 2015 has remained in dark till now, after the power supply line was damaged by a storm after one month of connection, he lamented.
RL Moel continued that the villagers have repeatedly requested authorities concerned for resumption of power supply but nothing has come of it so far.
The transformer installed by the department has also been overgrown by vegetation due to negligence.
Unavailability of power has made life very difficult for students, women and elders of the village, he added.
Considering the problems being faced by the villagers, the department concerned and Union ministers should look into the issue and resume power supply to the village before Christmas, urged the village chief.
