CM gives clarion call tor harmony on Unity Day

Chief Minister N Biren said that the state is heading forward towards development including improvement in connectivity with other states, and further appealed to the public to join hands and work together for further development of the state with peaceful co-existence.
The CM was attending the National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) observance held at 1st battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, here, on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, the CM asked state government officials, especially high ranking officers, to show seriousness during such important events.
He said that Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is being observed since 2014 every year on October 31 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.
He continued that every citizen of the country should know the importance of the observance and added "As Indians we all should take such national observance with all seriousness" .
"We have been able to live a life with dignity and honour, only because of being citizens of India and born in the state of Manipur.
As such we should have the highest honour for our country and birthplace," he said.
While reiterating his call for peaceful co-existence and working towards bringing development while giving up the idea of suppressing other communities, the CM pointed out that today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is revered across the world as a world leader because of the respect he earned from his works and policies for the country.
Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi has imbibed self-confidence in every Indian.
Under the initiative, the country has made many developmental strides, he said, while highlighting laying of foundation for aircraft manufacturing facility in Gujarat, export of fighter planes to other countries, and launching of commercial satellites, among others.
He also spoke about the increased air connectivity in the northeast region under UDAN scheme.
Biren also recalled PM Modi's virtual speech at the recent 'Chintan Shivir' on internal security and drugs related border management held at Surajkund, Haryana under the initiative of Union home minister Amit Shah.
The CM highlighted that'the Prime Minister emphasised on the need for remaining alert against threats as those trying to disintegrate and destabilise the country are not only insurgents, terrorists and naxalites but are also include many intellectuals and non-profit organisations with pen instead of gun, which are operating under foreign funding to disintegrate the country and its states.
He also spoke on the huge amount of illegal drug trafficking to the country from neighbouring countries, and added that many foreign countries are trying to destabilise the peaceful atmosphere of the country.
Biren stated that Central leaders are taking the issues of states very seriously, as any problem related to security and other reasons affect the whole country.
The ways of tackling and solving issues related to north-eastern states had changed as the Central leaders always think for the welfare of its people, he said, and appreciated the Union Home Minister's approach to UG groups asking them to come back to the mainstream.
The CM narrated the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during India's freedom struggle and integration of Indian states after independence.
One of the precious gifts to the country was his role in integration of provinces and princely states, under the Indian Independence Act 1947, to make a united and strong India, the CM added.
He also thanked all the armed forces personnel posted in the state for their tireless services rendered for the security of the state.
Biren inspected the March Past Parade and also administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge to all the participants of the function.
The March Past Parade led by deputy CO of 2nd MR N Suraj as parade commander was participated by contingents of BSF, CRPF, Combined Manipur Rifles Male, Combined IRB Male, Civil Police Imphal West Male, Civil Police Imphal East Male, 9 IRB Mahila, NCC Boys and NCC Girls.
Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba, ministers, MLAs, chairman of Boards & Corporations under the state government, chief secretary, DGP, civil and police officers, among others attended the function.
