Leave restricted till Sangai festival over

With the preparations for the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival intensified to make it bigger and more successful, government officials have been restricted from taking leave or abandoning station except on medical ground till the completion of the festival.
The annual tourism festival will be held from November 21 to 30 at different places of the state after a gap of two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Amidst the hectic preparations for the festival, officials of all state government departments have been disallowed to take leave or abandon station, as per an office memorandum issued by chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar.
Apart from attempting to promote Manipur as a world class tourism destination, Manipur Sangai Festival also showcases state's rich culture, tradition and unexplored tourist sites.
Promotion and curtain raiser programme to attract tourists was conducted recently in Kolkata while buyer and seller meets are being held and tour operators working towards introducing the festival.
Apart from this, efforts are being made to attract tourists to the festival through social media, electronic media and print media.
Very recently, ambassadors of six countries visited the state to promote Manipur Sangai Festival and an understanding was reached to have good relation between India and countries where they are currently posted.
Apart from taking up hectic preparations at different places to make the festival a grand success, activities to be conducted at festival venues had even been finalised, tentatively.
The festival will open at Moirang Khunou in Bishnupur district and different programmes will be held at the venue for 10 days.
Apart from the opening ceremony, the main venue at Moirang Khunou will have children amusement park, traditional huts, cultural programmes, departmental stalls, commercial stalls, food courts, fashion show, World War II museum, Sangai Run, tourism pavilion, tunnel light, tent city and tourism information centre to draw attention of the people and tourists.
The closing ceremony of the festival will be held at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), Palace Compound while different programmes will be conducted at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace compound similar to the main venue at Moirang Khunou.
