Imphal, October 31 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed the 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel cum 38th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Monday at Congress Bhawan, here.
AICC steering committee member Gaikhangam, who attended the event, said that the British handed freedom to India but people of the country now seem to require a second freedom in view of the BJP government's excessive actions which elude constitutional justice.
According to Gaikhangam, the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra being led by former AICC president Rahul Gandhi is not simply for the party and humanity but is a national movement to bring a change in the country and ensure second freedom to the people.
The movement calls for ending social and religious divide so that a new and strong India could be built and impact of the movement will be surely felt among people of the country.
However, many leaders of the ruling parties are making fun of the movement, which indeed is condemnable, Gaikhangam said, adding that the movement not only demonstrates Rahul Gandhi's seriousness about the country but his firm resolve is also being supported by scores of people who are joining the movement.
He maintained that the ongoing movement being spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi is a non-violence one and it will surely give impact to the 2024 Lok Sabha election in a big way.
CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh, who also attended the event, recalled that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the deputy PM and the home minister under the then PM Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet and he was instrumental in bringing unity of India by merging hundreds of princely states.
In view of his immense responsibility in unifying independent kingdoms for a united India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is known as 'Iron Man of India', Ibobi said, adding that MPCC observes his birth anniversary which coincides with death anniversary of former PM Indira Gandhi.
Meanwhile, Churachandpur District Congress Committee observed the 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel cum the 38th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at its office on Monday.
The event was attended by MPCC president K Meghachandra, former minister T Manga Vaiphei and many Congress leaders.
