MPCC remembers Patel, Indira

Former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi has highlighted the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi in the country's freedom struggle.
The 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the 38 th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi were observed today at Congress Bhavan here under the aegis of MPCC.
The function was attended by CLP leader O Ibobi, AICC Steering Committee member Gaikhangam, Congress MLAs, ex-MLAs and many leaders of Congress party and they paid floral tributes to the photographs of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi.
The day was also observed at Red Cross Road, Churachandpur under the aegis of Churachandpur District Congress Committee.
Led by MPCC president K Meghachandra, the people who gathered at the Red Cross Road paid floral tributes to the photographs of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi were two well known leaders who contributed immensely in creating a united India.
Indira Gandhi was one great leader who fought bravely against all forces which threatened the integrity of India, Ibobi said.
Ibobi recalled that Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own bodyguard to avenge for the operation Blue Star which was carried out by Indian forces to suppress Khalistan movement in Punjab.
He then called upon all the Congress workers to follow the principles espoused by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi.
A similar function was also held at Red Cross Road, Churachandpur under the aegis of Churachandpur District Congress Committee.
