Imphal, April 28 2023:
Highlighting the recent improvement in healthcare sector in the state, Manipur University vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra said that the healthcare sector of the state has been able to attract people from outside the state, especially from neighbouring countries.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a two-day SAHS North-East India Public Health Conference (SAPHCON) 2023, which js being organised by Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), department of community medicine on the theme 'Climate Change and Public Health Challenges', at the auditorium of the Academy located at Langol, here, on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, professor Lokendra said that the growing popularity of state's healthcare sector with improvement in infrastructure and manpower is a matter of pride.
On the other hand, climate change has become a global issue in the last two decades as a result of the continued exploits of forest and natural resources through several activities including deforestation.
Apart from global warming and changing climate pattern, climate change has also brought new challenges in terms of public health as bacteria and microorganisms, which are otherwise isolated in nature, have come into contact with humans.
In such a situation, organising the conference on the topic 'climate change and public health challenges' is a good initiative from SAHS, he said and expressed confidence that the conference will adopt actionable recommendation to tackle the new challenges.
SAHS director Dr M Amuba appreciated the faculty of the Academy for their support and contribution in organising the conference, which is the need of the hour.
A souvenir on SAPH-CON-2023 was released on the occasion, which was also attended by SAHS board of director member Dr S Jugindra, SAPHCON-2023 organising committee chairman Dr T Gambhir, vice-chairman Dr Th Achouba, organising secretary Dr Soram Gautam and board of director members of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute.
