Sit-in protest against liquor policy continues

Imphal, April 28 2023:
Denouncing the cabinet decision to legalise production and sale of liquor in the state, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) along with different women's organisations staged a sit-in protest at Naharup Makhapat on Friday.
A release issued by CADA secretary information & publicity L Brojen Angomcha informed that CADA along with All Manipur Women's Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and Gurupat Women Welfare Association, Naharup Makhapat, Imphal East jointly organised the sit-in protest during which the protestors held placards inscribed with slogans like 'Will not accept liquor legalisation', 'How will liquor be restricted by legalisation when it could not be controlled even when it was prohibited? ', 'Will a good quality liquor not deteriorate health?', 'Will crime be reduced by consuming quality liquor?', 'What is a good quality liquor?', 'Is the legalisation of liquor amidst the war on drugs campaign akin to restricting drug abuse but allowing liquor consumption?' and 'Isn't there any other way to increase revenue other than from liquor?' among others.
They also shouted slogans demanding the government to withdraw the decision of legalising liquor and saving Manipur from alcoholism.
