Moreh, April 28 2023:
Even as normal life was affected at Moreh due to the 24 hours bandh imposed in the wake of the death of Seiminthang Lupho today, the JAC formed has cautioned of closing the Imphal Moreh Road from April 29 until the culprits are arrested.
As per a statement of the JAC formed against the alleged murder of Seiminthang Lupho, the bandh will not cover essential services such as medical, electricity, water supply, religious services, Govern- ment security forces and people heading to the airport.
The body of Seiminthang Lupho alias Thangboi (28), s/o (L) Sehlal Lupho from Canan Veng, Moreh Ward No 7 was found at Khujailok River in an adjoining area between Moreh Ward No 6 and 7 yesterday.
As per a statement of the JAC, Seiminthang was killed before dumping at Khujailok River at Moreh as the body bore several injury marks.
It is reported that Moreh wore a deserted look today as all markets, shops were closed and Imphal-Moreh passenger services were halted due to the bandh.
Some Government departments were also closed.
Additional security forces have also been deployed at the border town to prevent untoward incidents.
On the other hand, the District Magistrate of Tengnoupal has prohibited assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and carrying of sticks, stones, firearms without a valid license and weapons or objects of any any descriptions which can be used as weapons at the whole area of Moreh town for two months with immediate effect under Sub Section 2 of CrPc 144 .
The restrictions shall not apply to the agencies of the Government involved in the enforcement of law and order and the maintenance of essential services, the order said.
The JAC said that the shutdown was imposed to show solidarity to the victim's family.
Claiming that the District Magistrate of Tengnoupal clamped CrPc 144 for two months at Moreh instead of delivering justice, it continued that alleged arbitrary use of power will do more harm than good.
"What is the Government for in a democratic country ? Here democracy is waning and disappearing slowly.
The victim was butchered and dumped like an animal.
Doesn't this call for protest from all corners irrespective of whatever community one belongs to," the JAC asked.
