Ex-MP Chaoba presses for Japanese hospital at Red Hills

Former union minister and Padmashri awardee Thounaojam Chaoba Singh has urged the Japanese government through the Indo-Japan Friendship Association to construct a Japanese hospital at Kangchingba hill located along the Maibam Lokpa ching, also known as the Red Hills, in memory of those Japanese soldiers who lost their lives during the World War-II in the said area.
An unveiling ceremony of the memori al plaque installed in honour of the Japanese soldiers at the Maibam Lokpa Ching memorial complex was organised jointly by Indian National Army Japanese Reception Association, Nambol; Indo Japan Friendship Association, Tokyo; and Numit Otentousama Chata, on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, Th Chaoba recalled that during the WWII, around 30,000 Japanese soldiers lost their lives and skeletal remains of soldiers were discovered during excavation works at Kangchingba hill.
Citing historical relevance of the place, he urged the government of Japan to construct a Japanese hospital, Japanese language learning institute and a park in memory of those Japanese soldiers, through the chairman of the Indo-Japan Friendship Association.
Expressing hope that the proposal would be accepted by the Japanese government, Chaoba further stated that Manipur will be remembered while revisiting the incidents of the WWII.
The memorial plague that has been unveiled will also remain as an unforgettable event in the history.
The function was also attended by Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Tokyo chairman Nakajima Keiji and general secretary Miura Mamoru.
