24-hr general strike along NH-102

Imphal, March 31 2015 :
Four students of Eureka High School were injured on Tuesday during a protest along National Highway (NH) 102 against the transfer of the school's principal.
Students of Eureka High School, Khongjom came out from the school premises and started blocking the highway between 10 am and 2pm at Khongjom Bazar.
The students burnt school furniture on the road affecting vehicular movement.
They also shouted slogans like "we want to study", "we need regular school principal" and "we condemned transfer of school principal" .
Later, a Thoubal Police team lead by SDPO came to the spot and tried to disperse the protestors.
Police had fire tear gas shells and mock bombs and resorted to blank fire during the strike.
It may be mentioned that the students called for a 24-hour general strike from Tuesday midnight to press for their demands.
The students had been boycotting the class from March 13 onwards protesting against the transfer of the school principal.
The strike has been supported by local Meira Paibis and clubs.
