Rameshor killing case: Keshworjit, driver jailed

The chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Thoubal sent Ayekpam Keshworjit, the main accused in the killing of BJP Manipur Pradesh Ex-Servicemen Cell convener Laishram Rameswor, and his driver Naorem Ricky Pointing alias Amu to jail on Monday.
Mention may be made here that Rameswor was shot dead near his Thoubal Kshetri Leikai residence on January 24 .
Ayekpam Keshworjit surrendered to the police and confessed of committing the crime.
The court sent Keshworjit to jail on judicial remand while his driver Ricky Pointing was granted bail.
However, the court sent Ricky to jail as well due to lack of documents.
Both of them had been in police custody since January 25 in connection with the investigation carried out by Thoubal police regarding the killing of Rameswor.
Meanwhile, large number of people gathered in front of CJM Thoubal court complex since morning after learning that the murder acused would be produced in the court.
They shouted several slogans against the killers and demanded they be given capital punishment.
In her submission to the court, additional PP M Jamuna Devi cited the report of the investigation officer of the case and said that both the accused were involved in killing Rameswor and prayed for granting judicial remand.
However, driver Ricky's counsel informed the court that his client and Keshworjit are neighbours and both went to Thoubal side after the former insisted 6n learn ing how to drive his new vehicle.
Ricky Pointing's counsel further informed the court that he is innocent and did not know of the incident and prayed for releasing the driver.
After hearing statements from both sides, the court sent prime accused Keshworjit to judicial custody and granted bail for Ricky with surety bond.
The court, however, later on sent Ricky Pointing to jail as well due to lack of documents.
