Status of water supply schemes in Saitu AC reviewed
MLA Haokholet Kipgen seeks support of village chiefs on 'War on Drugs'

A joint meeting of village chiefs of Saitu assembly constituency and PHE Department officials has decided to extend mutual cooperation and support for the successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and other water supply schemes funded by the New Development Bank (NDB) to meet the target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing potable drinking water to every household by the year 2024 .
The meeting also decided to work out means to take up Water Supply Schemes in those villages which are not yet covered by JJM or NDB schemes.
The joint meeting convened by Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen at his Babupara official residence in Imphal on Monday to review implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission and NDB-funded Water Supply Schemes in Saitu AC was attended by more than 227 village chiefs and representatives from the constituency and PHED officials led by Kangpokpi Division executive engineer Joel Rangnamei, apart from social workers from Saitu AC.
While conveying his gratitude for the massive turnout of village chiefs, MLA Haokholet explained why the joint meeting was convened and sought the opinion and constructive ideas, and suggestions from the village chiefs.
Addressing the gathering, Haokholet Kipgen stressed on the importance of environmental conservation and the necessity to protect trees, especially in the catchment areas to prevent drying up of traditional water sources, which is vital for our survival.
The MLA also urged the gathering to fight the menace of deforestation and cultivation of poppy in their villages and sought the support of the village chiefs on the ongoing War on Drugs campaign launched by chief minister N Biren Singh.
Earlier, EE Joel Rangnamei apprised the participants on status of JJM and NDB Schemes, while seeking cooperation of the village chiefs and public for smooth execution of the work.
An interaction session was conducted during which issues put forth by the village chiefs were clarified by the EE and the local MLA.
