Khashim Vashum calls for protection of indigenous cows

The two-day "Indigenous Cow Mela" came to a close today at Telou playground under Lamlai AC of Imphal East district organised by the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department.
Dignitaries present at the "mela" include Khashim Vashum, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister; Khongbantabam Ibomcha Singh , MLA Lamlai Assembly Constituency; P Vaiphei, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Horticulture and Soil Conservation; RK Dinesh, IAS, Commissioner Agriculture; Michael Achom, secretary, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services and I Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director , ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre as the presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Khashim Vashum encouraged people to take advantage of the multitude of schemes and projects undertaken by the various Government departments.
Stating that a substantial project on 'natural farming' will be launched under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he stated that similar 'cow melas' will be conducted across the State to ensure the success of this natural farming project.
He also highlighted the relation between natural farming and rearing of cows.
Adding that cows improve the economy of the State, he called for the preservation of indigenous cows.
Kh Ibomcha also addressed the gathering and lauded the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department for organizing the two-day indigenous cow mela.
He also urged people to support the Government's increased focus on natural farming while highlighting the negative impacts of chemical fertilizers on health.
Altogether 55 stalls were set up at the indigenous cow mela wherein many varieties of cows were put on display.
Aside from this, a cash prize of Rs 50,000 was handed over to Ksh Tombapu and Thangjam Nandibala for securing the first position in the categories of best cow and best ox respectively.
The second and third prize winners were presented with a cash award of Rs 25,000 and Rs 12,000 respectively along with a certificate each.
