Imphal, February 06 2023:
Ayekpam Keshorjit (46) s/o (L) Kunjo of Haobam Marak Irom Leikai and Naorem Ricky Ponting (24) s/o Kesho of Keinou Thongthak Maning Leikai, presently staying at Haobam Marak Irom Leikai have been remanded to judicial custody till February 20 .
The two arrested in connection with the murder of BJP Ex-Servicemen Cell Convener Laishram Rameshwar on January 23 were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal today.
Through an APP, the IO of the case submitted that Ayekpam Keshorjit planned to go to Thoubal side to talk with beneficiaries of PMKSY (PDMC) Scheme and he was asked by co-accused Wahengbam Joykumar, who is presently in judicial custody in connection with the same case, to carry his licensed gun if he went to Thoubal Kshetri Leikai.
Keshorjit disclosed that he went to meet one of the beneficiaries and he alone went to the house of the beneficiary while co-accused Ricky Ponting remained in the vehicle.
After having some conversation about whether they got any amount from Agriculture Department under the PMKSY scheme as beneficiary or not, late Rameshwar came there.
On seeing Rameshwar, Keshorjit decided to leave the place immediately but Rameshwar asked his identity and he indirectly informed that he was a social worker and started walking toward the gate.
Even as Rameshwar followed and asked Keshorjit to talk with him he (Keshorjit) did not stop walking and when he reached the gate, Rameshwar asked him to take off his cap and face mask to take photographs and took photographs using a mobile phone.
However, Keshorjit quickly took out his licensed gun and asked Rameshwar to raise his hands up and shot him.
Immediately after, Keshorjit ran away from the spot and informed Wahengbam Joykumar that he had shot Rameshwar, the IO narrated.
It is almost certain that Ayekpam Keshorjit and Wahengbam Joykumar made a plan to teach a lesson to the deceased for giving obstruction to their activities and W Joykumar always insisted Ayekpam Keshorjit to target the deceased, the IO said.
Saying that the investigation of the case is going on in full swing, the IO prayed for judicial custody remand.
The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of APP and defence counsel of Ricky Ponting, remanded Ayekpam Keshorjit to judicial custody.
Even though co-accused Ricky Ponting was granted bail, he too was sent to jail as he failed to furnish necessary bond and surety.
