Decrying investment of huge amounts of public money by SBI and LIC as loans in a couple of private companies at the behest of the BJP Government, a number of Congress workers today staged protest demonstrations in front of SBI and LIC offices.
As done in different parts of the country under AICC's instruction, a number of Congress workers led by MPCC president K Meghachandra staged a protest demonstration in front of LIC office at Khoyathong.
Earlier, the Congress workers led by CLP leader Okram Ibobi and AICC Steering Committee Member Gaikhangam took out a rally from Congress Bhavan to Khoyathong.
The protesters raised slogans demanding identification of those people responsible for misuse of public money in order to save SBI and LIC.
Speaking to media persons in front of LIC office at Khoyathong, O Ibobi said that huge amounts of money deposited in SBI and LIC by the people were found invested in the Group of Adani Enterprises.
Ibobi said that SBI and LIC invested huge amounts in the private company under pressure from the BJP Government.
The protest demonstration was staged to save the country from the BJP Government's system under which SBI and LIC were forced to invest huge amounts of public money in the Group of Adani Enterprises, Ibobi said.
MPCC president K Meghachandra said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has handed over the task of administering the country to some of his relatives and close associates.
The BJP Government forced the LIC authority to invest Rs 33000.60 crore in the Group of Adani Enterprises in the form of loan.
But this money belongs to 29 crore account holders, Meghachandra said.
Another Rs 80,000 crore deposited by 45 crore account holders in SBI was also invested in the Group of Adani Enterprises at the behest of the BJP Government, he said.
Pointing out that the Adani Group of Companies has been facing complete downfall following the disclosure made by the Hindenburg Research about fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation by the company, the MPCC president said that the protest demonstration was staged against the BJP Government for wasting huge amounts of public money and to save LIC and SBI.
"The Congress party has been demanding investigation of the issue by a Supreme Court justice or examination of the Hindenburg Research's report by a Joint Parliamentary Committee and a debate in the Parliament on the issue", Meghachandra added.
