GC Tongbra commemorated on his 107th birth anniversary

107th birth anniversary of GC Tongbra was observed today at Rupmahal Theatre jointly organised by The Society Theatre Manipur and Rupmahal Theatre.
The observation commenced with the lighting of ceremony and paying off floral tributes to the photo of GC Tongbra by the attendees.
The event was graced by Padmashree awardee Thounaojam Chaoba Singh; former Minister Langpoklakpam Jayanta kumar; former Corporator IMC Ward no 12 Potsangbam Premila Devi and Board of Directors Rupmahal Theatre Loitongbam Brajamohon Singh as the presidium members.
Speaking about the life history and contributions of Geetchandra (GC) Tongbra, Kangjam Radhakumar (retired IAS) asserted that GC Tongbra is among the eminent personalities of the State who brought a change in Manipuri literature.

His works portrayed significant societal issues with a touch of humour and can be termed as mirror of the society, he added.
Speaking as the chief guest, Padmashree awardee Thounaojam Chaoba Singh said that the early works mainly dramas of GC Tongbra reflects the vision of a progressive society.
Highlighting the need of analysing the works of G.C.Tongbra by the present generation, Th Chaoba maintained that his writings should be translated to Meitei Mayek to ensure that the youths of today understand it properly.
In view of the ongoing transition period, Th Chaoba maintained that it is high time that books written in Bengali are translated into Meitei Mayek so that the present generation clearly understand such works.
