Japhou & Modi to be made Model Villages under SAGY

Kakching, October 08 2021: Japhou village within Chandel district headquarters along with Modi village, which is about 5 km from the headquarters, has been selected for development as Model Villages under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) .

The launch function for development of Japhou and Modi villages as Model Villages under the initiative of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Lok Sabha MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze was held at Japhou village community hall on Friday.

The programme was attended by Chandel deputy commissioner Rajkumar Mayanglambam as chief guest and Autonomous District Council (ADC) Chandel former member Sh Manglem Monsang as president, while ADC Chandel chief executive officer Kshetrimayum Siddarth and SAGY state nodal officer Kh Ibochouba were present as guests of honour.

DRDA Chandel assistant project officer Waribam Iboyaima, MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze's Chandel district nominee M John Chothe, Japhou village chief Ng Maipakngam, Modi village chief KL John also attended the event among others.

As a part of the programme, a delegation led by DC Rajkumar and Manglem Monsang visited Japhou and Modi villages and inaugurated the commemorative plaques and planted saplings in the two villages.

Later, the main function was held at Japhou village community hall.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajkumar noted that it is due to the dedicated effort of former ADC members Manglem Monsang and KT Hari along with village chiefs of the two villages and others under the supervision of MP Dr Lorho that the launch programme for developing Japhou and Modi viSages as Model Villages under SAGY has been made possible.

He continued that developing a Model Village is a matter of convergence as SAGY does not have a separate dedicated funding.

It is a process to implement various central and state government schemes under close monitoring, so that the Model Village can become an example for other villages.

To ensure that the project is successful, he along with other district level officers will ascertain the requirements of the villages, chart out the development works required and take up those works, the DC assured.

Manglem Monsang thanked MP Dr Lorho and DC Rajkumar for selecting Japhou and Modi villages as Model Villages, while appealing to district level officers of Chandel to sincerely work for making these villages as Model Village into reality.

It may be mentioned that Japhou and Modi villages are amongst the oldest villages of Chandel district with Japhou village established in 1930 and Modi village in 1893 .
