NMSYO Sports' Meet begins at Maram Khullen

The 35th Northern Maram Students' and Youths' Organization (NMSYO) Sports' Meet hosted by Maram Mathak Sagai Unit kicked off on Friday at Maramei Namdi (ancestral Maram Khullen) village.
Speaking during the inaugural ceremony as chief guest, former deputy speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, K Raina congratulated NMSYO for bringing young and old together at Maram Khullen from its 17 satellite villages through the sports meet.
Stressing the need for strengthening the Northern Maram Organization, he said that it is time for the younger generation to take the responsibility of taking forward the organization and its ideals.
K Raina reminded the gathering that the ancestral Maram Khullen village was prosperous in every field during the times of ancestors from whom the present Maram population exists.
He rued that education in the area came late in comparison with other advanced communities and he called for unity to make progress.
Raina exhorted that no one is perfect and one needs to forgive and reconcile with one another to move forward while reminding the youths to learn the good traditions and customs from elders to keep the society prosperous.
As Maram Khullen village is situated on a hilltop and water scarcity is a major problem faced by villagers, guest of honour and ex-executive member ADC Senapati A Rang requested the gathering to support the village in its quest for water connection.
Northern Maram People s Organization (NMPO) president RK Kamba was the special guest.
NMSYO president Karaiba Francis delivered a welcome speech while Sagongnamba, chief of Maram invoked traditional blessing.
Special sports extravaganza items were presented by Kavanam and Mathak Unit and Makang Diana.
The chief guest unveiled of the sports meet's monolith and unfurled the NMSYO flag while sports torch was lighted by the guest of honour.
The meet's oath of team captains was pronounced by games & sports secretary Soiba.
Altogether 24 teams are participating in the men's and women's football and volleyball competitions.
General secretary Maram Union Pungdi P Celestine, presidents of Maram Students' Union, Maram Women Union, Northern Maram Women Union and Senapati District Olympic Association Manipur (SDOAM), and respective village headmen, GBs, chairmen and secretaries also attended the opening ceremony, said a press release from NMSYO.
