6063 kg gold seized; NIB man held with drugs

Imphal, October 08 2021:
Moreh Battalion of IGAR (South) seized 6.63 kg of gold approximately worth Rs 3.1 crore at Moreh town on October 6 .
According to PRO IGAR (S), based on a specific input, troops of Assam Rifles launched an operation and intercepted an auto rickshaw moving suspiciously in the border town.
On thorough checking of vehicle, the tfqops recovered approximately 6.63 kg of gold and apprehended the driver.
The driver along with the seized gold has been handed over to Department of Revenue Intelligence, Moreh for further legal action, it added.
On the other-hand, Narcotics Cell, Imphal East arrested two individuals including a constable of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) along with drugs from tribal market area, Imphal East on Thursday.
The arrested NAB constable has been identified as Moirangthem Captain, son of late Gambhir Singh of Uripok Khaidem Leikai and the other as Md Yunus Ahmad (27) son of Md Kayam Ahmad of Hatta Golapati.
Police sources said that a team of Imphal East district police Narcotics Cell led by its OC Inspector Kh Devkumar along with members of Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) carried out frisking operation in the area on Thursday around 3.50 pm after getting information of brown sugar trading.
The Narcotics Cell team apprehended Md Yunus Ahmad along with 315 grams of brown sugar.
During questioning, he disclosed that he procured the brown sugar from NAB constable Captain.
Based on his confession, the team arrested Captain from near MSF-DC.
The duo along with the seized drugs has been handed over to Porompat police station for further legal actions.
