Imphal, December 31 2022:
Mantripukhri Protection & Development Committee has opposed the government's move to acquire 100 acres of land falling under Kontha Ahallup, Mantripukhri, Chingmeirong Nongpok and Meitei Kairang villages/locality for establishment of Information Technology (IT)-HUB .
In a release, Committee president Haji Bashir Khan and general secretary Abdul Halim Phundreimayum stated that acquisition of the land will not only affect 580 families but also public lands including madrassa, playground, Qabrastan (cemetery), etc.
In case the government moves ahead with the plan then it will also make almost 2500 people homeless and affect education of even more number of students, it added.
The Committee recalled that in 2013 and 2015, the government planned to acquire the land but dropped the initiative considering public sentiments.
The present government had also assured that the land acquisition will not affect areas with houses during a meeting with the chief minister in 2018 in the presence of various CSOs.
As such, the government must focus on implementation of development projects which require large tracts of land near foothills or open land, it further appealed.
