Salam Tomba wins Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2022 in Manipuri

Salam Tomba has been declared the winner of Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2022 in Manipuri for his book titled 'Angouba Kei' which is a Manipuri translation of the English novel 'The White Tiger' authored by Aravind Adiga.
In a press release, Sahitya Akademi declared the winners of Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2022 in Bengali, Manipuri and Santali.
Saubhik De Sarkar won the prize for Bengali for his book 'Amar baba Baliah', Bengali translation of the autobiography 'My father Baliah' authored by Y.B.Satyanarayana while Laxman Kisku won the prize for Santali for his book 'Merom Gupi Din', Santali translation of the Malayalam novel titled 'Aadu Jeevithan' by Benyamin.
The books have been selected on the basis of the unanimous recommendation made by a three-member jury in accordance with the rules and procedure laid down for the purpose.
The jury members for Manipuri were Dr M Priyobrata Singh, Dr K Nayan Chand Singha and L Upendra Sharma.
While Dr Chaitali Brahma, Bhagirath Mishra and Dr Debabrata Chakrabarti were the jury members for Bengali and Dr Gumda Mardi, Hajam Baskey and Lakhai Baskey for Santali.
The award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque and an amount of Rs.50,000 each will be presented to the awardees at a special function to be held on a later date next year, added the release.
