IT Dept organises cyclothon, cultural festival

As a part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration in commemoration of 75 years of India's independence, the Income Tax Department organised a cyclothon as well as a cultural festival on Sunday.
The events were conducted under the aegis of office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North East Region, Guwahati, in continuation of the series of programmes being organised across the North East Region since June to create awareness on "Transparency in Taxation".
The final leg of the Cyclothon from the state's capital to Moirang in BIshnupur district was flagged off jointly international cyclist C Ramesh-wori Devi, actors Biju Ningombam and Bonny Gurumayum, and commissioner of Income Tax (Administration/Guwahati) GG Kamei.
More than 200 cyclists participated in the Cyclothon which commenced from Shahid Minar, Imphal and culminated at INA Memorial, Moirang.
The participants included Dronacharya Awardee (Boxing) L Ibomcha Singh and former World Youth Boxing champion Shamjetsabam Sarjubala Devi, among others.
The message of "Transparency in Taxation" was spread through announcements and distribution of pamphlets to the public along the route.
Floral tributes led by Rameshwori Devi, L Ibomcha and GG Kamei were offered to freedom fighters at INA Memorial, where the Tricolour was hoisted for the first time on Indian soil on April 14, 1944.Certificates and medals were distributed to the participants at the closing ceremony held at Sendra.
On the other-hand, a Cultural Festival-cum-Felicitation Ceremony was held in the evening at Hotel Imphal by-the-Classic, to celebrate the indomitable spirit of freedom; the glorious history of our country; and its culture and achievements.
GG Kamei delivered the keynote address on the occasion wherein she acknowledged and appreciated the important role played by taxpayers in nation building apart from highlighting the initiatives taken by the Income Tax Department towards better delivery of taxpayer services and grievance redressal.
Acknowledging the contributions made by eminent citizens towards nation building, she stated that the Department is proud and privileged to honour the eminent achievers.
Eminent citizens honoured and felicitated on the occasion included Laiphrakpam DhOni Devi (art & culture), Gangmei Aluna Kabuini (Folk Dance), Lourembam Bedabati Devi (Khunung Eshei), Laishangbam Anita Chanu (weightlifting coach), Ringyuichon Vashum (social worker), Tekcham Ranjita Devi (football referee), Kakchingtabam Shanathoiba Sharma (Thang Ta), Ningthoujam Borchand Meitei (Pena), Hodam Gyaneswor Singh (Badminton Referee), Guru Rewben Mashangva (Fol artiste), Shougrakpam Hemanta Singh (Shumang Leela) and Leishangthem Ibomcha Singh (Boxing Coach).
The Cultural Fest featured a scintillating performances by troupes of Guru Rewben Mashangva, Lourembam Bedabati Devi, Manipuri Jagoi Marup, Rhythms of Manipur and Folk Ensemble Manipur.
Commissioner of Income Tax (Guwahati) Chabungbam Deepak Singh delivered the vote of thanks and the Cultural Evening concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
