Street vendors demand space at Khwairamband Keithel

Street vendors under the banner of "Khwairamband Keithel Lambi Mataida Potpham Phambi Lup" have urged the State Government to provide them vending spaces at Khwairamband Keithel in order to get relief from the torments of Traffic Police and licensed vendors.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, President of Khwairamband Keithel Lambi Mataida Potpham Phambi Lup Potsangbam Shyamasakhi said that the street vendors are struggling to earn their livelihood by selling goods at the road side of Khwairamband Keithel against all odds.
However, the Traffic Police as well as licensed vendors are harassing and chasing them away from Khwairamband.
The street vendors have repeatedly demanded the State Government to provide them vending spaces at a proper place at Khwairamband Keithel, but the authorities are not willing to lend a helping hand to the poor street vendors, she decried.
She further questioned if the Government or IMC has authorized the licensed vendors to conduct offensive drive against the street vendors.
The licensed vendors chased away some street vendors from New Market area today, Shyamasakhi noted.
The President also decried the State Government's policy of providing vending spaces at non-commercial area of Lamphelpat, and demanded the authorities to disclose the exact number of licensed vendors at Khwairamband Keithel.
