Mary Kom Road: Giving a bad name to boxing icon
Source: Hueiyen News Service
Imphal, July 24 2013:
The three-kilometre-long Mary Kom Road which runs through National Games Village at Langol is in the most deplorable condition causing serious problems to the commuters.
The road was named after MC Mary Kom by State Government in 2012 in honour of her remarkable feat of becoming five-time world champion in women's boxing.
Fed up with irresponsibility of State Public Works Department, the residents of National Games Village have decided to mend the road of their own by taking donations from the public.
Mary Kom would also render substantial financial assistance to this road repairing work, a resident told Huieyen Lanpao.

The residents have repeatedly urged Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Works Minister Kh Ratankumar to repair the deplorable Mary Kom Road, but so far the Government has not taken up any step.
They further appealed to the authorities concerned to blacktop the road as soon as possible.
