Imphal, July 24 2013:
Even as all the oil tankers, LPG bullets and goods laden trucks stranded at Jiribam reached here this morning, 98 empty oil tankers and 36 LPG bullets left Imphal for Jiribam with security escorts today.
Although, 112 oil tankers took indent to lift petroleum products, only 98 vehicles left for Jiribam, sources said.
Owing to the dilapidated condition of NH-37 and inclement weather, the vehicles are likely to take around three days in reaching Jiribam.
Meanwhile, petroleum product transporters have decided not to return on NH-37, if the 26-km long stretch from Nung Dolan to Nungba is not repaired.
Speaking to reporters at Hotel Nirmala, the transporters said that oil tankers and LPG bullets could reach Imphal safely as the said area did not witness heavy rainfall in the past two-three days.
Saying that oil tanker and goods truck are two different vehicles, they said that oil tankers and LPG bullets would not be able to pass the said stretch if heavy shower lashes the area.
They pointed out that it would not be hard for the Government to keep the 26-km stretch atleast motorable if not repaired in tip-top condition.
