Imphal, June 08 2012:
The claim of increase in annual food production by farmers' committee is not trustworthy and thorough analysis is needed over such claims, Associate Professor Chinglen Maisnam of Economics Department, Manipur University contended.
He was speaking as Guest of Honour of the day-long Watermelon Festival held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen today.
Chinglen asserted that claim in the increase of paddy production with use of fertilizers each year and decrease in paddy field area is only in paperwork.
As rate of production increases, rate of food dependency increases.
He also lamented that the state government has been doing nothing much for the development of Manipur.
