Nomination process ends in Ukhrul, Kamjong

Ukhrul, February 11 2022:
A total of 12 candidates declared their candidature for two assembly seats in Ukhrul district and one seat in Kamjong district.
On the last day of the nomination process, sitting MLA and INC candidate Alfred Kanngam Arthur and Shiv Sena's Ninghor Jajo filed their nomination papers for Ukhrul and Phungyar ACs respectively.
According to a report of DIO Ukhrul, the office of the returning officers at Ukhrul district for Chingai AC, Ukhrul AC and Phungyar AC closed receipt of nomination papers from any political parties at 3 pm Friday, as per the guidelines given by Election Commission of India (ECI).
Of the 12 candidates who filed their nomination papers for the election to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2022, highest number of five candidates are in the fray for Phungyar seat.
The five are Hopingson Awung Shimray (BJP), sitting MLA and HAC chairman Leishiyo Keishing (NPF), Victor Keishing (INC), Wungnaoshang Kasar (JD-U) and Ninghor Jajo (Shiv Sena).
In the Chingai AC, a total of four candidates including sitting MLA Khashim Vashum (NPF), Preshow MK Shimray (BJP), Ningam Chamroy (NPP) and Sword Vashum (INC) filed their nomination.
Three nomination papers were filed by Somatai Shaiza (BJP), Ramnganing Muivah (NPF) and sitting MLA Alfred S Kanngam Arthur (INC) in Ukhrul AC.
Scrutiny of nomination papers for the three assembly constituencies is scheduled for February 14 while last date of withdrawal of candidature will be February 16 and votes will be cast on March 5 .
