Imphal, July 08 2021:
The 6th death anniversary of Lamjing Meira Robinhood, who sacrificed his life during the ILPS movement in the state to save the indigenes, was observed at Yelhoumi Athouba Singi Ningshing Khubam located at Awaching on Thursday.
The observance organised by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) was attended by family members of Sapam Robinhood, leaders of student organisations and CSOs among other.
Floral tributes were paid to the memorial and a two-minute silence observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Speaking at the observance, Lamjing Meira Ningshing Numit Observation Committee chairman Luwangcha Chingkhei contended that despite the implementation of ILP system in Manipur, the said system is more like a toothless tiger as it is not effective.
People of the state voluntarily came out in streets and launched several movements for protecting the indigenes, he recalled, while stating that the ILP system which is now implemented in the state could not save the indigenous people.
Thus, in order to save the indigenes of Manipur, public movements or actions will be initiated after thorough discussion, he added.
Meanwhile, JCILPS students' wing convenor Bhuiyamayum Sazad cautioned that the passenger train which will arrive in the state might even be blocked if the ILP system implemented in the state is not changed or amended.
JCILPS has been condemning against the ineffective ILP system since its implementation from day one, he recalled.
Highlighting the flaws in the ILP system, Sazad stressed that there is no cut base year, no proper definition of the indigenous people and vivid penalty to those who don't have the pass.
The future of the indigenous people of the state will be a grim one if the flaws in the ILP system are not rectified before arrival of train service in the state, he said.
Informing that JCILPS will launch a special drive to round up outsiders without pass and who fail to renew it, Sazad asserted that that the committee will also look into the new naming of places by outsiders.
JCILPS Women Wing convenor Th Kumu Leima and JCILPS Students' Wing Co-Convenor Md Kheiruddin attended the observance as presidium members.
