Imphal, July 08 2021:
Encouraging the general population to get vaccinated so as to stay safe from Covid-19 pandemic, Imphal East deputy commissioner (DC) Khumanthem Diana said that though there is no guarantee that vaccination can prevent Covid infection but it can reduce severe complications arising out of the viral infection.
Addressing an advocacy meet on vaccination organised by the district administration at Ibudhou Khamlangba community hall, Moirangpurel in Andro AC on Thursday, Diana said that the government is organising mass vaccination programmes for the safety of the public.
As the government has started to exempt people who are already vaccinated so as to help the public carry on with livelihood activities, albeit in a staggered manner, support and participation of the public in the vaccination is necessary to make the campaign successful, she explained, and cautioned that Covid-19 pandemic is not going to go anywhere soon and vaccination is the only lasting solution to this health crisis.
According to health experts, Covid infection among unvaccinated people is dangerous.
All individuals who have attained 18 years of age are eligible for the vaccination as per existing vaccine policy, Diana said while urging all eligible people to come forward and play their part in the fight against the pandemic by getting the vaccine shots.
Members of local clubs, Meira Paibi and village authorities of Moirangpurel, Itham and Tumukhong assisted the health officials in organising the advocacy meet.
On the other hand, Imphal West deputy commissioner on Thursday notified that the daily Covid-19 vaccination programmes conducted in various locations of the district will be halted from July 9 till July 12 .
In a notice, DC Th Kirankumar said that the vaccination team members are required to take a break from the continuous vaccination exercise.
The break is also in tune with the upcoming holidays, said the DC, who however, informed that vaccination at Ima Market No 3 and CAF&PD office at Sangaiprou will be held as usual till Friday.
