Renowned artiste 'Naba Volume' no more

Renowned Manipuri artiste, Ningthoujam Nabachandra, popularly known as Naba Volume for his intense vocal range passed away at 9:30 pm Wednesday due to cardiac arrest at Narayana Superspeciality Hosptial in Kolkata.
He was 72.Nabachandra, who is famous for his song 'Tum Tum Khongli Uthumna' was born on November 29, 1949 at Wahengbam Leikai and was an approved artiste of All India Radio, one of the main singers of Roop Raga since 1970, music director of Manipuri films and artiste of Aryan Theatre.
He was also producer in Song & Drama Division in 1984 and went on to serve as the director of the Song & Drama Division, New Delhi, Ministry of I&B.He also had a stint as the regional officer of the Central Board of Film Certification, Regional Office at Guwahati as well as chairman of North Eastern Regional Centre Board, Guwahati.
His mortal remains will be brought to Imphal from Kolkata on Friday and the last rites conducted at his birthplace Wahengbam Leikai.
Meanwhile, Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) has expressed deep condolences over the untimely demise of the renowned Manipuri artiste.
In a release, MSFDS secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum stated that as a mark of respect, candles were lit at the memorial of Manipuri Cinema at MSFDS complex, Palace Gate on Thursday.
Regional Outreach Bureau, Imphal artistes also condoled the demise of Ningthoujam Nabachandra by observing a two minute silence in his memory on Thursday.
