Academician Dr Y Mahendra no more

Noted academician and former CPI-M Manipur state council secretary Dr Yumnam Mahendra Singh passed away due to an illness on Thursday at RIMS hospital.
He was 86 .
CPI-M Manipur state council secretary Ksh Shanta deeply condoled the sudden demise of Dr Mahendra.
Dr Mahendra did a clerical job initially but passed MA history from Gauhati University and became a teacher.
He then got doctorate degree in history.
After serving as principal of Thoubal College, Moirang College and Oriental College, Dr Mahendra also served as director of College Development Council of Manipur University.
After retiring from government job, Dr Mahendra served as secretary of CPI-M Manipur state council from 2004 to 2007 and took part in several movements.
During his student days, Dr Mahendra was a key functionary of Students' Federation of India and All Manipur Youth League.
He also represented India in the 10th World Festival of Youth and Students held under the theme 'Anti-imperialist solidarity, peace and friendship' at East Berlin of then East Germany in 1973 .
Terming the demise of Dr Mahendra as a great loss for the state, CPI-M state unit organised a condolence meet and observed a two-minute silence apart from sharing pain and grief of the bereaved family.
