Minister Biswajit calls for curbing ozone depletion

Imphal, September 16 2022:
Science and Technology minister Th Biswajit called upon the people for minimising use of technology and chemicals that deplete ozone layer.
Speaking during the observance of World Ozone Day organised by Science and Technology Department on the theme 'Global Cooperation Protecting Life on Earth' at Manipur Science Centre auditorium on Friday, minister Biswajit pointed out that observance of World Ozone Day is closely related with climate change.
People should know that the past and present living condition will decide the future, he added.
Highlighting the need to protect ozone layer, he said that ecological imbalance and environmental degradation is closely related to depletion of ozone layer.
As such everybody should contribute their mite towards preservation of the environment so as to prevent adverse impact from climate change, he added.
The observance was also attended by Science and Technology Department director Homila and Manipur University Physics department Prof S Dorendrajit as presidium members.
Meanwhile, DM College of Science Department of Environmental Science and DM College of Arts Women & Environmental Studies jointly observed World Ozone Day on the theme 'Montreal Protocol@35: global cooperation protecting life on earth' at DM College of Science room number 73 .
The programme was attended by DM University vice chancellor Prof N Rajmuhon, DM College of Science principal Dr M Bhubaneshwar Devi, DM University registrar Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam and DM College of Arts principal Dr Ch Sheelaramani as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, Prof N Rajmuhon pointed out that numerous weapons that could destroy earth have been made with the development of science and technology.
However, the only living planet 'Earth' could not be saved by such weapons.
It can only be safeguarded when science and spiritual humanity join hand in hand.
Protecting the nature should be the first priority and responsibility of the people, he said, while urging all to help in protecting ozone layer.
