Imphal, September 16 2022:
Even as the Congress party is all set to observe national unemployment day on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the second time on Saturday, the party has also slammed the state government for putting secretariat employees in Sajiwa Jail for staging protest stating that the act shows the total disregard of law by the BJP government.
Addressing a press meet at Congress Bhawan here on Friday, MPCC spokesperson N Bhupenda said that the agitation and demand of secretariat employees are legitimate and it was unfortunate for the government to disregard law and put the employees in jail to draw out an agreement instead of resolving the issue peacefully.
Bhupenda pointed out that the BJP government in its cabinet meeting held on April 3, 2017 resolved to stop service extension of retired employees.
But in violation of its own decision, the government is extending the service of chief secretary for another six months despite having three well-qualified additional chief secretaries of 1988 batch.
Apart from the chief secretary, the government is extending services of several retired employees, which is in stark contrast to its own decision, he alleged.
Bhupenda also blamed the government for its failure to implement 7th CPC in the state entirely and said that it shows how the government is treating its employees.
The Congress government implemented the 5th and 6th CPCs without much delay and without causing any fiscal burden, Bhupenda added.
He also charged the BJP government of enforcing the new pension scheme instead of the old one, and added that Congress party will always stand by the side of the public against any wrong policies of the government.
Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee leader Ningthoujam Popilal, who was also present at the press meet, informed that the party would be observing the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as national unemployment day as a mark of protest against the rising unemployment rate under the NDA government, on Saturday.
He called upon the unemployed youths of the state to join the observance and raise their voices against the rising unemployment.
