The Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasilloi Apunba Lup (MEELAL), Kangleipak has urged Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba and Education Minister Th Basanta to have talk with their counterparts in Assam to launch Meetei Mayek course in the educational institutes of the neighbouring State.
A press release issued by MEELAL said that they have already submitted a memorandum to the State Government on September 15 to promote Meetei Mayek in Assam.
It further stated that the Manipur Government must formulate a policy to promote Meetei Mayek in Tripura, Bangladesh, Myanmar and other places where Meeteis inhabit, apart from Assam for the well being of students taking Manipuri as a subject.
MEELAL informed that a public meeting attended by members of Manipuri Language Protection Co-ordination Committee ; JAC for the Safeguard of Indigenous Manipuri People of Assam; Meetei Pukei Lup, Assam; Manipuri Development Council, Assam; All Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Coordination Committee; Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Apunba Lup; Meira Paibi Sangstha Assam; Manipuri Muslim Meira Paibi Sangstha, Assam; Manipur People Front, Lakhimpur Committee; Barak Musuem and Library Assam; United Manipuri Association, Assam; Athouba Ningshing Lup, Assam; Naharol Khorirol Shinglup, Assam University Manipuri Department and well wishers unanimously resolved to urge the authorities concerned to begin a course on Meetei Mayek in Assam.
The meeting also acknowledged that Meetei Mayek is now being taught upto MA level at Manipur University, it said and added that MEELAL will extend all possible support to movement being taken up in Assam to promote Meetei Mayek.
