Jiribam rally protests oil palm plantation

Jiribam, September 16 2022:
Monitoring Committee on Development Works in Jiribam (MCDWJ) organised a mass rally against oil palm plantation in Jiribam district.
The rally participated by students and leaders of civil society organisations of the district started from Jiri Ima Keithel and culminated at the starting point after covering Irabot statue in the heart of Jiri town.
Participants of the rally used several placards some of which read 'Stop oil palm plantation in Jiribam', 'Say no to oil palm plantation in Manipur', etc.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, MCDWJ president K Khumanjao Meetei appealed to government not to take up oil palm plantation in Manipur while pointing out numerous demerits of mass plantation of palm tree including damage to soil.
He said that different forms of agitation will be launched if the government went ahead with the decision of taking up oil palm plantation in Jiribam district.
