48th foundation day of AMWJU ; IPR Minister assures to rectify pension scheme

IPR Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan has assured that he would work to rectify the journalists' pension scheme.
He was speaking at the 48th foundation day of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) at Manipur Press Club here today.
Dr Sapam Ranjan said he would consult senior journalists as well as IPR officials to identify the areas in the journalists' pension scheme which require rectification and do the needful.
The role of journalists in disseminating information to every nook and comer of the State irrespective of rain and shine deserves appreciation, he said.
Like medical professionals, journalists are also doing their duty round the clock.
It is the journalists and medical professionals who venture into areas where other people abhor to visit, he continued.
He went on to claim that he is always concerned about welfare of the journalists fraternity and has been working to take up different measures for the welfare of journalists from time to time.
Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam assured that the renovation work of Manipur Press Club would be completed soon.
He also assured to look into the proposal of fitting a lift and adding two guest rooms to the Manipur Press Club building.
The Government would look into what can be done to minimise physical and mental harassment meted out journalists in the State by different elements, Govindas assured.
AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai and Editors' Guild Manipur president Khogendra Khomdram was also seated on the dais.
Earlier, the gathering paid floral tributes to all expired AMWJU office bearers and members.
Gifts were also presented to former office bearers of AMWJU.
