Imphal, October 09 2021:
Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council along with Loumee Lup on Saturday joined the nationwide strike against Lakhimpur Kheri, UP incident and demanding arrest of union minister of state for home Ajay Mishra's son, who is the main accused in the incident of mowing down farmers who were protesting peacefully.
The protesters led by CPI state council secretary L Sotinkumar planned a protest rally along BT Road.
However, police stopped them before reaching BT road and they were forced to go back into the CPI complex where they continued the protest.
Interacting with media, Sotinkumar called the BJP government a fascist regime and said that killing farmers to suppress their protest is akin to murder of democracy.
Moreover, BJP's claim of standing with the farmers is just propaganda to mislead the public.
The Modi wave is waning in the country as the public are facing severe hardships under his rule.
It is the right time to defeat the BJP government in the state, he said.
Several protesters also spoke against the three farm laws while terming them pro-corporate.
Farmers will suffer more under the BJP rule and food producers of the state will also suffer the same fate, they said.
Loumee Lup president N Singhajit, CPI spokesperson RK Amusana, CPI leader H Ibobi, CPI Lamsang local council leader and party candidate Meitram Kesho and leaders of Nupi Marup also attended the protest, demanding withdrawal of the three farm laws and arrest of union minister Ajay Mishra's son among other demands.
