Discourse on common renal diseases held

Manipur University organised a discussion programme on the theme 'Common Renal Diseases in Manipur and Process of Kidney transplant' at MU centenary hall on Saturday.
The discussion programme was attended by ML registrar Prof W Chandbabu, Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) president Prof Debananda Ningthoujam, Imphal West police SP Dr S Ibomcha and All Manipur Kidney Transplant Patients' Welfare Association media advisor Phanjoubam Lanajit among others.
Speaking at the discourse, Prof W Chandbabu expressed that organising such discussion programme on kidney related diseases common in Manipur at the varsity will benefit the people as students are the ones who bring change for the people.
As students of the varsity come from every nook and corner of the state, the message of the programme will be spread to their homes and localities, he added.
Phanjoubam Lanajit observed that 98 per cent of the patients suffering from kidney related diseases are from poor families.
In or der to treat the disease, the patients have to even sell their land.
Moreover, there were instances where kidney patients succumbed to Covid-19 infections, he added.
Stating that All Manipur Kidney Transplant Patients' Welfare Association had already submitted a memorandum to the government and authorities concerned for introducing a free drugs policy for kidney patients, Lanajit said that the government is yet to take up any initiative.
He urged the government to implement a policy for kidney patients of the state at the earliest.
