Minister Dikho exhorts Naga youth to excel in sports

Pointing out that sports play a very important role and has become a huge industry in the modern world, PHE minister L Dikho has called upon the Naga youth to give their best and excel in the field of sports.
Speaking as special guest at the inaugural function of 21st Naga Students' Federation (NSF) Martyrs' Memorial Trophy 2021 organised by Angami Students' Union (ASU) on Saturday under the theme 'Goal for Peace' at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, minister Dikho appreciated NSF and ASU for their commitment towards bringing peace and better understanding among the Nagas through this sporting event.
This NSF Martyrs' Memorial Trophy should be converted into a national event, he suggested.
The programme was chaired by ASU tribunal general Neizokhotuo Belho.
ASU president Bisevi Nakhro delivered the welcome address, while the organising committee convener Dievi Yano presented the keynote address.
NSF president Kegwayhun Tep shared the solidarity message with ASU games & sports secretary Thejalhoukho Thomas Khawakhrie administrating the oath to the participating teams.
The annual sporting event is organised in honour and remembrance of Lt Kekuojalie Sachti of Kohima village and Lt Vikhozo Yhoshti of Kigwema Village, who were victims of firings by Armed Police at Alichen, when the student fraternity, on March 20,1986, was taking out a peaceful protest against the extension of Disturbed Area Belt from 5 km along the Indo-Myanmar Border and against the induction of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadres into the state of Nagaland.
In the inaugural match, Phesama Youth Organisation defeated New Market FC by 5-3.Altogether, 52 teams have registered for the tournament, which would continue till November 6 .
