Senapati, June 26 2015 :
The Naga People's Organization (NPO) in a statement has stated that, as per the joint meeting of Senapati district's apex bodies including NPO, Senapati District Student's Association (SDSA) and Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA), no bandh or blockade will be allowed in the district without the consent/permission of the said civil organizations.
The move has come in the wake of some organizations claiming to impose their agitation within Senapati district without the knowledge of the civil bodies.
The decision is to curb unwanted and irrelevant bandhs or blockades called by different organizations claiming to be genuine.
"Senapati district has been always projected in public domain for wrong and negative reasons like bandh and blockade", the NPO informed.
It warned that any organization forcefully imposing the bandh within the domain of the NPO will be dealt with befittingly and added that NPO will not be responsible for any consequences.
The statement appended by NPO president T Moses Kamba also noted that the ongoing ATSUM-Muan Tombing group's blockade is not relevant or effective in Senapati district and that, imposition of such blockades on the whims and fancies of any organization will not be allowed.
Moreover, the Senapati apex body also added that, there are confirmed reports of counter blockade called by Meitei Youth Front (MYF) that has also restricted transportation of materials and items from Imphal to Senapati district by buses or trucks.
Such blockade imposed on Senapati district which is not part of the ongoing agitation is unfortunate, said NPO and demanded that those concerned should immediately cease all such activities.
The NPO stated that any form of disturbing the peaceful environment of the district would not be tolerated and added that any restriction on transporting economic or business goods to the district should be outside the purview of the ongoing economic blockade or counter blockade called by the two organizations.
