Lawful tag for 37,000 connections

Altogether 37,051 illegal power consumers have been converted to legal consumers during a special campaign taken up by the Manipur State Power Distribution Company under which the process of enlisting oneself as lawful power consumer was made much easier.
Even though 37,051 illegal consumers have been converted to lawful consumers till March 31 last, 2,17,466 households are yet to get the status of being lawful power consumers, informed an official source.
District-wise figures for the number of illegal consumers who became lawful consumers during the special campaign are 2799 in Imphal West, 8500 in Imphal East, 4286 in Thoubal, 1061 in Bishnupur, 5774 in Churachandpur, 5399 in Chandel, 216 in Tamenglong, 5856 in Senapati and 4160 in Ukhrul.
In view of the sheer number of power consumers who still belong to the category of illegal consumers, the special campaign has been extended till May 31, informed an official source.
People (illegal power consumers) may avail the advantages provided during the campaign to enlist themselves as lawful consumers.
The company is also actively engaged in installing pre-paid meter systems in different parts of the State including Imphal and all efforts are being invested to activate the newly installed pre-paid meters by April 15 .
Altogether, 36052 pre-paid meters have been installed anew in Imphal.
