Committee demands swift action against attackers

Oinam Tangleihada Okshoi Grazing Ground Protection Committee has demanded the authority concerned to take up stern actions against the indivi-dual(s) involved in the reported assaults against four persons of Nambol Oinam on March 27 at Okshoi Pat.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, secretary of Oinam Tangleihada Okshoi Grazing Ground Protection Committee, Sushildro Nongthombam said, "Oinam Ratankumar (Moirangning-thou), s/o (L) O Temba, Chongtham Chaleshwor (Bojaoba), s/o Ch Ibochouba, Laishram Bashan (Inao), s/o L Ibochou and Ahong-sangbam Romen (Naoton), s/o A Brajamani, all from Nambol Oinam, were in Okshoi Pat for various developmental works when the incident happened" .
Sushildro alleged that Sagolsem Apabi, A Ibungo, Naorem Debekanta and A Ganashyam of Nambol Naorem led a team of 40 persons and attacked the four individuals with sticks and machete blades.
While two of them managed to escape, Ratankumar was caught and beaten black and blue by the mob.
Further, Apabi slashed Ratankumar's head with a machete blade.
Bashan also sustained injuries, Sushildro said.
Later a tractor including water pump and other machines were also burnt down by the team led by Apabi, alleged Sushildro.
The following day, the incident was reported to Nambol police station and a case has been registered against the attackers.
A meeting was held on March 28 demanding the police to apprehend the culprits within 48 hours, he added.
Sushildro further said that the police department has not taken up any concrete step against the culprits.
He added that the people of Nambol Oinam are not bandh and general strike mongers.
Instead, the people want justice through peaceful means.
