5 Congress ADC members resign; 2 join BJP in Ukhrul

As the ADC polls in the hill districts draw near the Congress members have started resigning.
At least two of them had joined the BJP in the pre-election exercise.
It may be recalled that two members, Peter Kamkara and K.Naokahao had resigned from the primary membership of the party on March 30.They accused the party of insensivity and neglecting the aspirations tribal communities in the state.
The Hill Areas Committee members also took a decision not to take part in the elections unless the sixth schedule is extended.
However the members had participated in the elections at great personal risks in view of the ban imposed by some underground organisations.
Three more ADC members in Ukhrul district have also tendered resingations from the Congress party.
They are Unamapm Zinik, K.Joseph and Jashawa.
Joseph and Jashawa had resigned from the ADC membership also.
Reports further said that Umampam Zimik and K.Joseph had joined the BJP.
The three remaining ones have not joined any party as yet.
The elections in the six ADCs will be completed within April 30. Though many parties will be in the fray three parties, the BJP, the Congress and the NPF will be the major players.
The state government is keeping its fingers crossed since the ban on the ADC polls is not officially lifted.
One ADC member had been recently assassinated in Ukhrul district.
Other members have been lodged in a safe house located on campus of the Khuman Lampak Sports complex.
It has been the target of some bomb attacks.
In one blast six persons including two school going girls were killed and some others wounded.
